In Yerevan, protestors call on Armenian authorities to an alliance with United States
In Yerevan, supporters of the opposition “National Democratic Pole” alliance held an action with the demand to update the Treaty of Sevres on the Armenian-Turkish border, signed at the initiative of the United States in 1920. The United States, not Russia, is an Armenia’s natural ally, activists say.
The participants of the action brought with them state flags of Armenia and the United States, the flags of the “National Democratic Pole” alliance, as well as posters with the English inscriptions reading: “Legal borders by [US President Woodrow] Wilson, not Soviet illegal borders”, “USA is the saviour of the people”, “Pashinyan’s treasonous regime does not represent the people we are”, and “Armenia is a natural and true ally of the United States”. In their hands, the activists were also holding a portrait of US President Woodrow Wilson with a map of the region proposed by him in 1920. According to organizers, more than 200 people took part in the action. The police were following the protest.
The organizers of the action have pointed out to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent that the event is being held in front of the building of the US Embassy “as a token of gratitude for the Treaty of Sevres,” initiated by the authorities of the country. On the air on the official Facebook page of the “National Democratic Pole” alliance, the activists announced launching a nationwide sign-in in favour of recognizing the country as the legal successor of the first Republic of Armenia. The activists believe that only the first Republic of Armenia had international recognition. The petition also declares that Armenia should become an ally of the United States.
