Court upholds verdict to resident of Chechnya in attack case on Budyonnovsk

The Military Court of Appeal has upheld the verdict to Aslan Daudov, a resident of Chechnya, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison for taking part in hostage-taking, terrorism and premeditated murder during the 1995 attack by Shamil Basaev's detachment on Budyonnovsk.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in December 2020, the court sentenced Daudov to 12 years in prison.

Investigators believe that in June 1995 Daudov joined the armed grouping led by Basaev. On June 14, 1995, about 160 people committed an armed attack on Budyonnovsk, Stavropol Territory, including Daudov.

On June 14, 1995, a detachment of Chechen militants led by Basaev invaded the territory of the Stavropol Territory and captured the Budyonnovsk hospital. As a result, 129 people perished, and 317 others were wounded. The militants released the remaining hostages in exchange for a promise from the Russian authorities to end hostilities in Chechnya.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
