Baku court sets activist Rustam Ismayilbeili free
The case against Rustam Ismayilbeili, a student, accused of violating anti-covid measures at the action in support of Salekh Rustamov on December 1, has been dismissed, the "Meydan" TV has informed.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 2, the court sentenced Ilkham Gusein, a member of the Presidium of the Popular Front of Azerbaijan Party (PFPA), and Rustam Ismayilbeili, an activist, to 30 days of arrest each. Elchin Teimurov and Elkhan Aliev, PFPA activists, were sentenced to 25 and 20 days of arrest, accordingly; while Sayad Guliev, another activist, was arrested for 15 days. The activists' advocate has treated their arrest as politically motivated.
Earlier, Mr Ismayilbeili said that during the action on December 1, he was in class, but the court still arrested him for 30 days. Earlier, he had been administratively arrested for participating in protests.
The court had punished Ismayilbeili with the maximum sentence, although the article under which he was arrested provides for alternative penalties, in particular, a fine, Zibeida Sadygova, an advocate, said earlier. According to her story, this punishment is too severe.
