On complaint of Gyulyalyev's relatives, GPO finds no corpus delicti in doctors' actions
The Azerbaijani General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) has refused to initiate a criminal case against doctors on the complaint lodged by relatives of Ogtai Gyulyalyev, a human rights defender, about doctors' failure to provide him with proper medical care. The GPO sees no corpus delicti in doctors' actions, Mekhman Aliev, the director of the "Turan" News Agency, has informed.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 29, 2019, Ogtai Gyulyalyev, the head of the public alliance "Azerbaijan without political prisoners", who had held a press conference on the campaign against torture earlier that day, was hit by a car. He was diagnosed with a skull fracture and brain damage.
In January, 2021, the Azerbaijani GPO launched a re-investigation into the treatment methods applied to Gyulyalyev, who had been in coma for over a year.
According to Mekhman Aliev, the relatives' complaint had to do with the fact that the doctors of the hospital, where Gyulyalyev was initially taken, and then those of the private clinic City Hospital, failed to take urgent measures.
Gyulyalyev's wife has confirmed that the family was dissatisfied with doctors' actions. "In the clinic, where he was transferred, his surgery was delayed. Time was lost ... that is why my husband ended up in a deep coma, in which he still remains," Firuza Gyulyalyeva has stated.
Let us remind you that investigators concluded that the traffic accident with Gyulyalyev was not premeditated.
