Muftiate of Chechnya reproaches President Erdoğan for violating Islamic traditions by Dudayev park
According to the Spiritual Administration of Chechnya, the opening in Turkey of a park named after Dzhokhar Dudayev, the first president of Ichkeria, is at odds with the Muslim traditions that condemn terrorism.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 10, the administration of the municipality of the city of Korfez in the Turkish Province of Kodjaeli solemnly opened a park named after the first president of Ichkeria, Djokhar Dudaev. Then, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, stated that the actions of Turkish authorities, which in this way support terrorists, threaten the Russian-Turkish diplomatic relations.
Djokhar Dudaev, an Aviation Major General, was in the lead of the movement for the exit of Chechnya from the Soviet Union, the first president of Ichkeria (1991-1996), the supreme commander in chief during the First Chechen War.
The Chechen Republic of Ichkeria is an unrecognized separatist state entity created after the collapse of the USSR in a part of the territory of the former Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic and liquidated by federal troops in 2000.
On December 22, an extraordinary congress of the region’s religious leaders was held at the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) of Chechnya, with adoption of a resolution in connection with the opening of a park named after Dzhokhar Dudayev in Turkey, the “Grozny Inform” reported.
The SAM of Chechnya appealed to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with a demand to define his policy. “We, the Muslims of the Chechen Republic, sharply condemn your policy <...>. You consider yourself a Muslim, but do you really not know that villainy is forbidden to Muslims in our religion? Is it not an act of villainy to raise Dzhokhar Dudayev to a high level of honour, in whose memory a park was opened in your country?” the Chechen SAM asked in its statement as quoted by the “Chechnya Segodnya” on December 22.
According to the Chechen SAM’s statement, the policy of the Turkish authorities is perceived by the religious leaders of the region in no other way than a declaration of enmity to the people of Chechnya. “We cannot call your activity noble. If you think that we are mistaken, you can gather ulemas (Islamic experts,– note of the ‘Caucasian Knot’) of Turkey, and we will prove that your policy runs counter to religious, and in general, universal human values and national policy,” the SAM of Chechnya stated.
