Georgian authorities report about allocation of housing to forced migrants
In Georgia, more than 7000 families of temporary displaced persons have received new housing during the past two years, reports Ekaterine Tikaradze, Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that there is a big problem in Georgia with the allocation of housing for refugees and temporary displaced persons (TDPs).
On December 23, in Tbilisi, the Agency for Refugees and Eco-migrants released a report on its activities over two years. At a meeting, Ekaterine Tikaradze, Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia, reported that in Georgia, more than 7000 families of TDPs received new housing over the past two years.
“New apartments were allocated to 2905 families of TDPs. The agency purchased rural housing for 3028 families and legalized housing for 1176 families of TDPs. The agency also relocated to a safe environment 624 families affected by natural disasters,” Ekaterine Tikaradze reported.
When the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent asked Shota Arutenyan, the deputy chief of the department, when all TDPs would be provided with decent housing, the official replied that the authorities intended to solve the problem by the end of 2024. “Allocation of housing to the temporarily displaced persons remains a constant priority of the authorities. By the end of 2024, new housing will be provided to 13,000 more families, and not a single forced migrant will live in difficult conditions,” Shota Arutenyan stated.
