Court seizes USD 1400 from Tsarnaev in favour of Boston terror act victims

The federal benefit allocated because of the coronavirus pandemic to the Chechen, Djokhar Tsarnaev, convicted for committing terror act at the Boston Marathon, will be transferred by a court decision to the terror act victims.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that, according to the US special services, the brothers Djokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev committed a terror act during the Boston Marathon on July 15, 2013. The double explosion killed three people and injured 180 others. Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed during his detention, while Djokhar Tsarnaev was sentenced to death by a court in Boston on June 25, 2015.

In July 2020, the US Court of Appeal cancelled the death penalty, citing the possible bias of the jury selected in Boston, the terror act venue.

As reported on December 6 by the "Bostonherald" outlet, it was the Massachusetts attorney who had filed a lawsuit demanding to seize the USD 1400 coronavirus federal benefit to the US District Court in Boston.

Nathaniel Mendell, the acting US Attorney in Massachusetts, has stated that Tsarnaev must pay the victims of the attack the amount of USD 101,129,627 in total.

The judge has ruled to transfer the benefit due to Tsarnaev in prison to the victims of his terror act, the Daily Mail has reported. The ruling also notes that the convict has so far paid the victims only USD 2202.03.
