European Court condemns Russia for murdering a Chechnya resident
Today, the European Court for Human Rights (ECtHR) has blamed Russia for disappearance and murder of a young man from Chechnya, the "Legal Initiative for Russia," organization representing the interests of the victim's relatives, has stated today.
In the case "Akhmadov and Sadulaev versus Russia," the ECtHR has considered the issues of illegal detention, disappearance and murder of Shamil Akhmadov, father of five small children, who was detained on March 12, 2001, during a large-scale special operation in the town of Argun, Chechnya. Over a year after detention, local residents found defaced Akhmadov's body in the field outside Argun.
"I'm completely satisfied with the decision of the Court," Shamil Akhmadov's mother said.
The decision of the European Court is now the tenth one concerning gross violations of human rights in Chechnya.
The "Caucasian Knot" has informed earlier that the previous decision was passed on January 18, when the European Court for Human Rights found the authorities of Russia guilty of torturing Chechnya's residents Arbi Chitaev and his brother Adam.
