Tbilisi: Refugees' protest ends in death of one of them

In a dwelling settlement in an outskirt of Tbilisi, a man perished during an action held by forced migrants, who demanded to remove them from an emergency building. The police are investigating the case about bringing the man to suicide.

The incident occurred on January 16 at an action in the settlement of the Tbilisi Electric Locomotive Factory (known as TEVZ). The deceased was a 52-year-old man who died at the scene of the action, the "News-Georgia" has reported.

After the man's death, protesters had clashes with the police, as for a long time the former did not allow the latter to pick up the body by blocking the road with a car. The family of the deceased said they did not trust the National Bureau named after Levan Samkharauli, where the forensic examination should be conducted.

In connection with the incident, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has started an investigation under the article "Bringing to suicide".

Refugees were accommodated into the "Kartli" Sanatorium about 30 years ago; by now, up to 120 families still live there. Over the past month, they have held protest actions, demanding to relocate them, claiming based on expert examinations that the sanatorium building is unsafe, and it is dangerous for people to stay in it.
