US Supreme Court upholds verdict to Tsarnaev

The US Supreme Court (SC) has upheld the death penalty for Djokhar Tsarnaev, a Chechen convicted for committing the Boston terror act.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July 2020, the US Court of Appeal overturned the death penalty verdict and ruled to reconsider the sentence to Djokhar Tsarnaev. The verdict was overturned with reference to the possible bias of the jury that was selected in Boston, at the venue of the terror act.

On March 4, the US SC considered the appeal lodged by the US Justice Department against the cancellation of the death penalty for Djokhar Tsarnaev, the CNN has reported. The death sentence was upheld by a vote of six to three, the report says.

The SC has concluded that Tsarnaev's constitutional right to a fair and impartial trial by a jury was not violated, Judge Clarence Thomas has stated.

Let us remind you that according to the version of American special services, the brothers Djokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev committed a terror act during the Boston Marathon on July 15, 2013. The double explosion killed three and wounded 180 people.
