In Yerevan, protestors speak against agreements with Baku and Ankara

At a rally held in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia, oppositionists have stated that establishing relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey contradicts the interests of residents of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 14, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan announced its willingness for negotiations with Yerevan on concluding a peace treaty, subject to a number of principles. In response, Yerevan offered to hold negotiations under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group. The Baku’s proposals have been an attempt to consolidate the results of the 2020 war, and they do not affect the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, Armenian political analysts explain.

Today, about 200 members of the youth organizations of the opposition “Dashnaktsutyun” Party and the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) have come to a protest rally in front of the Armenian MFA’s building in the centre of Yerevan. The protestors demanded to prevent agreements with Azerbaijan and Turkey, the TASS reports.

“We […] are not ready to forget the Armenian Genocide [in the Ottoman Empire] or erase the date of April 24 from our calendars (Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Armenian Genocide, – note of the ‘Caucasian Knot). When Nikol [Pashinyan] speaks about peace here, our soldiers are being killed at the border. The peace agenda is false, and we will not allow the sale of our national interests to Turkey and Azerbaijan,” MP Anna Mkrtchyan, an RPA member, said at the rally as quoted by the TASS.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
