Persons on trial in Kabardino-Balkaria voice protest against cremation of militants' bodies

13 detainees kept in the Nalchik pre-trial facility (SIZO) refused from their further participation in investigatory actions in protest against cremation of the bodies of the victims of the events on October 13, 2005. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent learnt about it from informal sources.

The inmates expressed their protest in writing, having sent letters to Alexei Savrulin, head of the investigatory group for especially important cases of the Central Department of the RF State Office of Public Prosecutor for the South Federal District (SFD). The letters state, in particular, that "the citizen whose guilt has not been proved in the judicial order established by the legislator is subject to rehabilitation," and that "...without an enacted verdict, the confidence of the inspector or public prosecutor of his guilt remains beyond their legal relations," "...in this connection, I hereby give up further investigatory actions until the illegally cremated bodies under Criminal Case 25/78-05 are recognized to be subject to rehabilitation with all the outgoing circumstances."
