Refugees ask Gukasyan to collect compensation for their broken rights from Azerbaijan

On June 29, 2007, the network of the Civil Society "Refugees and International Law" sent the first package with Azerbaijani refugees' petitions, addressed to the authorities of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), to the NKR President.

"The refugees are convinced that the NKR authorities will take under their effective control the enforcement process of the demands of more than 500,000 genocide and deportation victims, concerning restoration of their rights, payment to them by the Azerbaijani Republic of proper compensation for the inflicted moral damage, return of their homeland and state, and their citizenship <...> Already today, more than 20,000 applications are at the disposal of the network 'Refugees and International Law,' and they continue to arrive," the refugees' appeal says.

By addressing the NKR's authorities, the refugees, in their opinion, are expressing their trust in them, thus allotting them with a mandate to act on their own behalf.
