In Baku, activists demand to increase benefits for children of poor people

At a protest action in Baku, female activists from an opposition party called on the authorities to increase benefits for children from low-income families.

The protest action is timed to the Children’s Day, which is celebrated today. The protesters have expressed their indignation by the fact that the proceeds from the sale of natural resources are distributed unfairly and that “the state does not take care of children, especially from poor families,” the “Turan” agency reports.

The protesters also demanded to let them visit MPs, but the police did not let them through to the parliament building and advised the activists to meet MPs in their offices.

According to the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Azerbaijan, more than 600,000 minors now receive social allowances from the state.
