Gulnara Bagautdinova hopes for the ECtHR in her son's death case
All the legal possibilities to achieve the rehabilitation of Vali Bagautdinov, who was killed by law enforcers in November 2014, have been exhausted in Russia; the only hope is for the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), Gulnara Bagautdinova, the casualty's mother, has stated. She intends to prove that her son died from torture.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 1, 2014, the police reported that a car driver had been killed in a shootout on the Makhachkala-Verkhniy Gunib highway. According to the police, in response to the demand to stop, he opened fire on policemen. In her turn, the mother claims that law enforcers had beaten her son to death, and then staged a shootout.
For eight years, Ms Bagautdinova has been trying to prove that her son was tortured and killed, and then his killing by return fire was staged. The woman has unsuccessfully passed through all the judicial instances in Russia.
In December 2019, the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan refused to acquit Vali Bagautdinov and closed the case due to the suspect's death.
"I have a grandson growing. I don't want him to be told tomorrow that his father was a criminal and a terrorist," Gulnara Bagautdinova has stated.
