North-Caucasian Muftis urge not to treat collections of hadiths as extremist materials

Collections of hadiths and generally accepted works by Islamic scholars should be included into lists of religious literature that cannot be classified as extremist materials, the Coordinating Centre of Muslims of Northern Caucasus has stated after the collection "Sahih al-Bukhari"* was banned.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 31, Ramzan Kadyrov demanded to reconsider the decision to include the collection of Prophet Muhammad's sayings "Sahih al-Bukhari"* into the list of extremist materials. In his opinion, the court "had turned to incompetent expertise."

As noted by Dagestan Muftiate, a particular edition of the "Sahih al-Bukhari"* was included into the list of extremist, and not the collection itself, while in Russia there is another translation thereof. Marat Ashimov, the advocate of the arrested director of the "Umma" publishing house, has pointed out that these are statements in which the Prophet praises the Muslim religion; and some experts find in them "a call for superiority on religion grounds."

The above Coordinating Centre has offered to expand the list of religious literature that cannot be classified as extremist materials.

Let us remind you that on November 23, 2015, the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, signed a law that prohibits treating the texts of the Bible, Koran, Tanakh and Kangyur (Kanjur) as extremist.

* the collection of sayings was recognized as extremist and included in the federal list of materials prohibited for distribution
