After villagers' complaints, Dagestani government instructed to deal with dumps
Abdulmuslim Abdulmuslimov, the republic's prime minister, has ordered the regional government to deal with the problem of unauthorized dumps in Dagestan.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 4, the Dagestani Ministry of Natural Resources reported the liquidation of a fire that occurred in the dump in a Makhachkala suburb. However, residents of surrounding villages claimed that the dump continues burning.
The proximity of the garbage dump creates problems for villagers, Instagram* users have noted, urging officials to close the dump and build waste processing factories.
In Dagestan, spontaneous dumps occupy vast territories; they pollute the atmosphere, soil and water, Abdulmuslim Abdulmuslimov, the chairman of Dagestani government (the premier), has stated, and called on his colleagues to combat garbage dumps "by using modern technologies."
In June, residents of the dwelling settlement of Novy Agachaul, Karabudakhkent District, blocked the road, the premier has recalled. "The cause of their anger was in the fire at the dump. They are sick and tired of breathing poisonous smoke, which can seriously harm their health," Mr Abdulmuslimov has noted.
The dump that makes residents of Novy Agachaul suffering has been smouldering since 2000s, but in recent years the situation has noticeably worsened, a local resident named Magomedamin has stated.
