In Dagestan, journalists support Gadjiev and Donogo with solo pickets

In Makhachkala, Dagestani journalists held solo pickets with the demand to stop the criminal prosecution of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an editor of the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik”, (Rough Draft), and historian Khadjimurad Donogo.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev consider the criminal case instituted against him to be political persecution and regularly hold actions in support of him. So, on December 12, pickets were held by Magdi Kamalov, the founder of the newspaper “Chernovik”, and Idris Yusupov, a journalist of the “Novoye Delo” (New Clause).

Weekly pickets held by the Abdulmumin Gadjiev’s colleagues attract less and less attention of passers-by, probably due to the fact that residents of the republic have to more and more think about their own financial difficulties, Magdi Kamalov emphasizes.

Today, Magdi Kamalov, the founder of the newspaper “Chernovik”, has held a solo picket with the demand to release Abdulmumin Gadjiev and stop criminal proceedings against him.

The second solo picket has been held by Idris Yusupov. The journalist spoke in support of Khadjimurad Donogo and called on to stop the persecution of the historian.

Another solo picket demanding “freedom of journalism” was held by a Moscow activist. All three pickets were held under the observance of the police. Policemen approached each of the picketers to verify their IDs and demanded written explanations.
