Melikov: riots aim at destabilizing situation in Dagestan

Behind the riots at the Makhachkala airport are people who oppose socio-economic transformations in Dagestan, since they deprive them of illegal income, and the riots themselves were supervised from abroad, including through “pro-Ukrainian Telegram channels,” said the head of the republic, Sergei Melikov.

“Unfortunately, we have to admit that support for the participants in the riots was probably provided by those for whom the socio-economic transformations in Dagestan are not beneficial... because they deprive them of the illegal earnings – allowed by conditions specifically created for themselves throughout many years,” RIA Novosti quoted him today.

In his opinion, the riots were coordinated from the territory of Ukraine. The head of Dagestan noted that security forces have at their disposal videos and photographs taken during the unrest. “There will be no forgiveness for anyone. Many facts have been registered, video and photographic recordings have been made, so no one should escape responsibility,” Melikov said.

Let us remind you that on the evening of October 29, riots broke out at Makhachkala airport due to reports of the arrival of a plane with passengers from Israel. According to authorities, more than 20 people were injured as a result of the unrest at Makhachkala airport. The airport is closed until October 31.
