Dagestani journalist Idris Yusupov* registered as foreign agent
The Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has justified the inclusion of the Dagestani journalist, Idris Yusupov*, into the list of foreign agents by his participation in the creation of materials for foreign agents and the dissemination of "unreliable information about the decisions taken by Russian authorities and the policies pursued by them."
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Idris Yusupov*, a journalist of the Dagestani outlet "Novoye Delo" (New Cause), used to regularly hold solo pickets in Makhachkala since November 6 in support of residents of Palestine. On November 21, he noted the active reaction of the townspeople to the poster, saying that he would not stop his pickets until all the republic's structures responded to the situation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict zone.
Idris Yusupov* has made public an issue that was important for Dagestan – he posted materials about the practice of regularly detaining believers and putting them on the police list. He is also a participant in weekly pickets in defence of Abdulmumin Gadjiev.
The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that on October 30, 2023, in Makhachkala, law enforcers came to search Yusupov's* home. They seized equipment and flash drives. The journalist was ordered to appear again for questioning as a witness in the case of riots at the Makhachkala Airport. After the interrogation, Yusupov* said that investigators were interested in his connection with a Telegram channel that called for participation in anti-Semitic actions.
