Zarema Musaeva left in Argun penal colony
Alexander Savin, an advocate, has managed to meet Zarema Musaeva at the colony-settlement located in the city of Argun; she will stay there for the near future.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 3, 2023, a lawyer from the "Team against Torture"* asked the cassation court in Pyatigorsk to overturn the sentence passed on Musaeva in Chechnya due to the unjustified charges and law violations. On February 6, 2024, Musaeva's advocate was informed that she would be transferred to another colony. Earlier, on July 4, 2023, the court sentenced Musaeva to 5.5 years in custody, finding her guilty of assaulting a policeman. On September 12, 2023, the Supreme Court of Chechnya reduced Musaeva's sentence to five years.
Musaeva will stay at the penal colony in Argun, the "Kavkaz.Realii"** project reports with reference to Alexander Savin, an advocate.
In his opinion, closer to the date of the cassation court hearing, which is scheduled for March 5, Musaeva may be transferred to another jail, equipped with video communication means. He suggests that this could be the SIZO (pre-trial prison) in Grozny.
*The "Team against Torture" (TaT, formerly the "Committee against Torture" – CaT) was created by the lawyers who had earlier worked for the CaT, which was included into the register of the NCOs performing the functions of foreign agents.
**Included by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) into the register of foreign agents.
