Court extends arrest of blogger Alyona Agafonova

Alyona Agafonova, a blogger from Samara, accused of desecrating a symbol of military glory because of her video filmed near the monument "The Motherland is Calling!" has been left in custody until June 19.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Agafonova is accused under the article of desecration of a symbol of military glory (providing for up to five years of freedom deprivation). She has asked the court to consider her case under a special procedure.

In the summer of 2023, Agafonova filmed a video on Mamayev Kurgan, in which she pretends to touch the chest of the sculpture "The Motherland is Calling!" with her finger, and laughs. Later, she apologized.

The special procedure for considering criminal cases presupposes that the defendant fully agrees with the accusation. Under this procedure, the court considers the case without examining the proofs, which significantly speeds up the trial, and the accused can hope for a more lenient punishment.
