Contract soldier from Novorossiysk convicted of AWOL

In Novorossiysk, a court sentenced contract soldier Alexei Parakhin to five years and three months of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony, finding him guilty of absence without official leave (AWOL) during mobilization.

The Novorossiysk Garrison Military Court found that on December 25, 2023, during partial mobilization, Alexei Parakhin left the place of his service by his own will, without good reason, and went home, the “Kommersant” reports. The man was returned to his temporary deployment point on May 14.

The defendant stated that he wanted to take a temporary break from the service and then return to his military unit.

Earlier, the Krasnodar Territorial Court sentenced Alexei Parakhin to 2.8 years of imprisonment in a penal colony, finding him guilty of robbery. In connection with the conclusion of a contract for military service in September 2023, the man was released on probation.

The Novorossiysk Garrison Military Court found the Alexei Parakhin’s correction to be possible only in conditions of his isolation from society and sentenced the man to imprisonment for a term of five years and three months. Furthermore, the court added to the punishment the unserved portion of the man’s sentence in accordance with the verdict of the Kalininsky District Court.

Earlier, the “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the Maikop Garrison Military Court sentenced contract soldier Vladimir Nazarenko to six years of suspended imprisonment for his absence from the military unit for more than four months.
