Dagestani journalist Idris Yusupov* gets back his laptops confiscated during search

The police returned to Dagestani journalist Idris Yusupov* his laptops and other office equipment, confiscated during a search. However, the journalist’s demand to justify the search remained unanswered.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 22, a search was conducted at house of Idris Yusupov*, during which law enforcers seized a mobile phone and laptops. Earlier, on October 30, 2023, the police also came to search the Idris Yusupov*’s house and seized office equipment and flash drives.

On November 24, 2023, the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) included Idris Yusupov*, a journalist of the “Novoye Delo” (New Clause), in the list of foreign agents. The journalist explained his inclusion by the fact that in 2023, he participated in a project of the “Civic Assistance Committee”** to provide assistance to prisoners from Northern Caucasus. In February 2024, Idris Yusupov* returned the money he got from the “Civic Assistance Committee”** and filed an appeal to exclude him from the register of foreign agents.

Let us remind you that Idris Yusupov* made public an important problem for Dagestan. He posted materials about the regular detentions of believers and their registration with the police. The journalist regularly held solo pickets in defence of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an editor of the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft), scientist Khadji-Murad Donogo, political prisoners, and also in support of residents of Palestine.
