Student Daniil Vodolagin, convicted of spreading fakes about Russian Army, convoyed to penal colony
Daniil Vodolagin, a Volgograd student, has been sent to a penal colony, where he will serve a five-year sentence for spreading fake news about the Russian Army. This was reported by the human rights project "OVD-Info"* with reference to his advocate.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2023, the 21-year-old Vodolagin was accused of spreading fake news about the Russian Army based on political hatred due to his pacifist posts in social networks. On July 15, 2024, the Sovietsky District Court of Volgograd sentenced him to five years of freedom deprivation, and the appellate instance upheld the sentence.
According to investigators, the young man publicly disseminated deliberately false information about the use of Russian Armed Forces, the actions of "volunteer formations and organizations" associated with them, as well as about the exercise of powers by state bodies. The human rights project "Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial" recognized Vodolagin as a political prisoner.
Let us remind you that in December 2023, Daniil's mother reported that her son had been earlier brought to administrative responsibility twice for publishing prohibited symbols of Nazi Germany and insults against a certain person posted in social networks. He paid both fines. "After that, investigating bodies were not interested in my son. His arrest was a complete surprise for the family," the woman said.
