In Dagestan, journalists of "Nastoyascheye Vremya" recognized as victims

The investigatory committee of the investigatory department for the Kirovskiy District of Makhachkala, which operates under the prosecutor's office, has recognized the journalists of the "Nastoyascheye Vremya" (Present Time) newspaper to be victims in the criminal case initiated against Director General of the edition Rizvan Rizvanov. The corresponding decisions were issued to journalists on July 8.

Earlier, according to the information received by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent from the journalists who had worked for the newspaper and then dismissed, Mr Bulatov, who is heading the State Labour Inspectorate in the Republic Dagestan, had asserted that his check had revealed no violations of the labour legislation prejudicing the rights of the employees of the "Nastoyascheye Vremya" newspaper.

The "Caucasian Knot" has informed that on June 16, 2008, the investigatory committee of the investigatory department for the Kirovskiy District of Makhachkala passed a ruling to initiate a criminal case against Rizvanov, director general director of the weekly "Nastoyascheye Vremya" under Article "Hindrance to lawful professional work of journalists".

This Article assumes punishment in the form of corrective works for the term of up to two years or deprivation of freedom for the term of up to three years with a ban to occupy certain posts.
