In Chechnya, a sapper blows himself up

Yesterday, on March 16, in the Kurchaloy District of the Chechen Republic, a contracted soldier from the engineering-sapper subdivision of the Internal Troops of Russian MIA was lost. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about the incident by the Republic's Military Commandant's Office.

"On March 16, in the suburb of Tsentaroy village, Kurchaloy District, servicemen of the engineering-sapper subdivision of the Internal Troops of Russian MIA were demining the territory. In the course of the works, a large calibre mortar land mine blew up," said a source from the Office.

As a result of the explosion, Junior Sergeant Kalmykov, a contracted soldier, was heavily wounded. Later, he died from plural fragmental wounds. There are no other casualties or victims of the incident. The circumstances thereof are now examined.

This is already the third case, when people have blown themselves by bombs and other ordnances in the Chechen Republic within the last week.
