Political prisoners plan to run for Yerevan Board of Elders

Names of political prisoners have been put on the proportional list of the oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC) drafted for participation in elections of the Board of Elders at the Yerevan City Mayoralty. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told about it by Arman Musinyan, press secretary of the ANC.

According to Mr Musinyan, the list includes the defendants in the "Case of Seven": former Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Arzumanyan, Suren Sirunyan, and MPs Miasnik Malkhasyan and Akop Akopyan. Documents of Arzumanyan, Akopyan and Malkhasyan are almost ready, and those of Sirunyan are in preparation.

According to preliminary data, the ANC list will comprise some 100-120 persons, the largest quotas are provided to the leading parties-members of the ANC: the People's Party of Armenia, "Republic" Party and Armenian National Movement. Other positions in the list are equally split among minor parties-members of the ANC. Political prisoners are listed beyond the party quotas.
