New rallies against kidnappings possible in Dagestan

According to Gyulnara Rustamova, an activist of the public movement "Mothers of Dagestan for Human Rights", new protest actions organized by relatives of missing or murdered persons cannot be excluded.

Ms Rustamova has shared this opinion with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent while telling about the meeting in Makhachkala on June 27, where she was an active participant.

According to Rustamova, when the action participants decided to block the Yaragskiy Avenue, an official of the Prosecutor's Office came out to them and invited her and some other protesters to come to a meeting with the Public Prosecutor of Dagestan Igor Tkachov. The Public Prosecutor listened attentively to the protesters' claims and stated that precisely two hours later he would for sure know the destiny of the kidnapped persons, and asked, for the time being, to unblock the Yaragskiy Avenue; soon the traffic was resumed there.

At the next meeting Igor Tkachov explained that the arrested persons were indeed kept at the Department for fighting organized crime, extremism and criminal terrorism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan and that the relatives could meet them right then.

Нowever, when relatives of the kidnapped Ali Zalitinov and Idris Gukachaev arrived in the Department, they were told that the guards of the public order had detained nobody, and to the objection that the Public Prosecutor of Dagestan had told that the arrested persons were kept in the premises of Dagestan's MIA, a rough answer followed: "You now go to the Public Prosecutor, and let him solve your problems."
