Committee in Defence of Political Prisoners protests against Armand Babadzhanyan's arrest in Armenia

The Committee in Defence of Political Prisoners and Repressed Persons has voiced its protest against refusal of Armenian authorities to apply early release to Armand Babadzhanyan, editor-in-chief of the "Zhamanak-Yerevan" newspaper.

"The decision to leave him behind bars is purely political, since there are no legal grounds to reject his petition on early release," runs the statement of the Committee.

The Committee in Defence of Political Prisoners and Repressed Persons condemns the refusal of the authorities to satisfy Armand Babadzhanyan's petition on early release and treats it as violence against citizen and free-thinking journalist.

On July 18, the Commission on Conditional Early Relief rejected the petition on early release lodged by Armand Babadzhanyan.
