Chechen residents to elect new Parliament on October 12

Ramzan Kadyrov, president of Chechnya, has called on the republic's population to be active in the course of October 12 election of the parliament of second convocation and expressed his confidence that the election will be held "on a high level". Kadyrov has made this statement during his meeting with Ismail Baikhanov, chairman of the Chechen Central Election Commission.

"Not a single citizen of our republic must remain indifferent on this day. Knowing the results of the previous election, I am sure that the coming election will be held on a high level and the republic's population will vote for the most worthy candidates", states Kadyrov.

The early election to the republic's parliament was appointed after the Chechen parliament  took a decision on self-dissolution at its June 27 extraordinary session. The MPs explained their decision by the fact that, in December last year, a number of amendments and additions had been introduced into the Chechen Constitution and the Law on Parliamentary Elections. In particular, the republic's parliament is to consist of a single chamber instead of two chambers, while the number of deputies is to be decreased by one-third. Simultaneously, the term in office for the parliament is increased from four to five years.

The republic's election commission has admitted seven parties to take part in the parliamentary election: "United Russia", "Patriots of Russia", "Party of Peace and Unity ", "Fair Russia", "LDPR", "CPRF" and "Popular Union", which nominated 347 candidates for 41 seats in the new Chechen parliament.

According to the republic's CEC data, there are 589,687 people who enjoy the right to vote in Chechnya. The republic's election commission has prepared more than 600,000 ballot papers for the election. The CEC explains this by the fact that the law allows the issue of one-and-a-half percent of ballot papers in excess to what is needed. 438 polling stations have been opened in the republic.
