Over 20,000 refugees back in Georgia in regions adjacent to South Ossetia

According to the data of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), as of today, over 20,000 refugees have returned to Georgian territories adjacent to South Ossetia.

We remind you that the process of refugees' return to the so-called "buffer zones" from the internal districts of Georgia started on October 9.

Refugees are coming back to their native villages. In total, as a result of the conflict in South Ossetia, about 192,000 persons became displaced persons, the "News-Georgia" Agency reports with reference to the UNHCR.

At the same time, many refugees are still in Tbilisi. Thus, on October 20, about 50 refugees from South Ossetia made an attempt to move into the building of the Party "Movement for United Georgia", which is headed by ex-Minister of Defence of Georgia Irakliy Okruashvili. Before that, the abandoned, after his departure to France, office of the Party had occupied by several families from the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zones. The newcomers assert that they have nowhere to go. A conflict situation arose, and the police had to interfere, the "Gazeta.Ru" Agency reports.
