Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria continues recruiting jurymen for trial on Nalchik attack

Today, the Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria continued preliminary hearing on the case about the events on October 13, 2005. In the course of the sitting, the court was presented with motivated challenges of jury candidates lodged by accusation and defence. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent learnt about it from Liza Shak, a defendants' advocate.

"The court has gathered all the challenges and appointed the next sitting on December 9," Ms Shak said.

We remind you that this is already the third round of selection. During the previous two, the court managed to recruit 13 jurymen, however, they should be at least 35. Thus, the court needs at least 25 jurymen more. Meanwhile, out of 46 persons invited to the courtroom, more than half of them have withdrawn their candidatures during these two judicial sessions.

After the previous sitting, advocate Magomed Abubakarov expressed his opinion that the prosecution is pressing the jurymen, asks incorrect questions, and hints that possesses some private information about them.

"I have an impression that the prosecution is not interested to form the board of jurymen. Most likely, they need it to demonstrate that in Kabardino-Balkaria it is impossible and transfer the trial to some other region," he said.
