HRW: the prison authorities in Kabardino-Balkaria jeopardize Kudaev's life

The international human rights organization Human Rights Watch expressed its concern about the fate of Rasul Kudaev, former prisoner of Guantanamo, who is now held in the Russian pre-trial prison.

The health of Rasul Kudaev, Russian citizen suspected of terrorism, has recently deteriorated, reports "Interfax" with reference to the international human rights organization. The human rights activists think that Kudaev must immediately undergo medical examination and be provided with proper treatment. Also, the Human Rights Watch insists that his lawyer must be present during each medical examination.

"Kudaev has not been convicted for any crime, however, the prison authorities jeopardize his life, his heart can hardly withstand this", claims Caroll Bohert, deputy director of the Human Rights Watch.

Kudaev has been kept in the Nalchik pre-trial prison for more than three years. He is suspected of taking part in the armed attack of militants on Nalchik in October 2005.

  • Resident of North Ossetia treats compensation for beating up by law enforcer as insufficient

Soslan Dzidakhanov disagrees with the amount of compensation for his suffered moral harm that the Ardonsky Court awarded him for being beaten up by a law enforcer.
