Young man kidnapped in Dagestan

On June 27 in Makhachkala unidentified armed persons in civilian clothes detained and took away in some unknown place Gitikhma Dzhavatkhanov, 27, a resident of Novaya Urada village, Kumtorkalin District of Dagestan.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent learnt about it from Svetlana Isaeva, chair of the public organization "Mothers of Dagestan for Human Rights", who was addressed for help by detainee's brother - Isalmagomed Dzhavatkhanov - an eyewitness of the incident.

Ms Isaeva said that Dzhavatkhanov's car was blocked at the exit from Makhachkala by two Priora cars with tinted glasses and without state number plates. About ten armed young men jumped out of the cars. Some of them grasped Dzhavatkhanov and threw him on the back seat; one of the attackers took the drive of the detainee's car, and all the cars quickly left aside Makhachkala.

Svetlana Isaeva lodged applications about Gitikhma Dzhavatkhanov's disappearance to the Kirov ROVD (District Interior Department) of the capital of Dagestan and to the Republic's Prosecutor's Office. The militia rejected the application saying that they can accept such only from close relatives, while the Prosecutor's Office expressed their intention to assist in the search.
