Khatazhukov: extrajudicial executions on the rise in Kabardino-Balkaria

The kidnapping of Georgiy Nakani, a resident of Neitrino village in Kabardino-Balkaria, and disappearance of three residents of the republic in November on their way to the city of Ufa, are the facts in the category of extrajudicial executions, widely practiced in Ingushetia and Dagestan. This is the opinion of Valery Khatazhukov, head of the Kabardino-Balkarian Public Human Rights Centre.

"In no event we should admit that the situation in Kabardino-Balkaria becomes same terrifying as in the neighbouring republics," Valery Khatazhukov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

For this purpose, in his opinion, the political leadership of the republic should make everything possible to stop this "road roller".

"We don't know what these forces are and what they want. It's obviously only that they ignore the laws and the constitution of the country, they conduct retaliatory actions and ignore the opinion of the public and the authorities of the region," said Mr Khatazhukov.

In his opinion, such actions just contribute to expansion of the social base of terrorism. "Efficient war on terror is possible only within the bounds of the law," the human rights activist has emphasized.
