Lawyers comment on scandal with equipment sale on behalf of "Akhmat" special unit
Lawyers have noted that it is practically impossible to hold the scammers accountable for the fact that they had sold stolen property, posing themselves as fighters of the "Akhmat" Chechen special unit. But these actions have seriously discredited the "Akhmat"; and it's possible that Chechnya's enemies are behind this, a political analyst has suggested.
Posing themselves as "Akhmat" fighters, the scammers deceived residents, selling them technical equipment under the fictitious pretext of material need. The traders "earned" a lot of money, Apti Alautdinov, the commander of the "Akhmat" special unit, wrote in his Telegram channel.
Ruslan Kutaev, a political analyst, has noted that the scammers' actions damaged the image not only of the "Akhmat" unit, but also that of the Chechen leadership.
According to Timofei Shirokov, a lawyer, the use of the "Akhmat" name by strangers for trading in itself can only theoretically fall under criminal offences.
