Nagorno-Karabakh to hold charitable action "Armenian Registry of Marrow Donors"
The action, dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the charitable fund "Armenian Registry of Marrow Donors" will take place on January 8, 2010, in Stepanakert, the capital of Nagorno-Karabakh. This was stated on December 16 by Armen Khachatryan, Minister of Public Health.
According to his story, in 2002, in the presence of the Honorary Chair of the "Armenian Registry of Marrow Donors" Bella Kocharyan (wife of the second president of Armenia Robert Kocharyan), an action was held in Nagorno-Karabakh, as a result of which in 2002-2004 the Registry contained 805 marrow donors.
"The medical people of Nagorno-Karabakh and I personally, as the Minister, will surely take part in the action. It will be organized jointly with the Ministry of Culture and Youth Matters and will be attended by President of Nagorno-Karabakh Bako Saakyan and other officials," said the Minister.
In his turn, Sevak Avakyan, executive director of the charitable fund "Armenian Registry of Marrow Donors", said this not an Armenian or Karabakh programme, it is a real all-Armenian programme in favour of 10 million Armenians of the world.
The head of the "Armenian Registry of Marrow Donors" said that January 8 is a symbolical day, because "10 years ago Bella Kocharyan gave her blood for the first time and became our donor; and in Yerevan the corresponding centre was opened.
