Dmitri Medvedev orders to be tough in supervising expenditures on Sochi Olympiad
Today, at the meeting with top managers of the Russian Federation Audit Chamber, President of Russia Dmitri Medvedev demanded to be very tough in controlling the expenditures on building the Olympic objects in Sochi.
Mr Medvedev enumerated a range of objects erected in Russia, which, as he said, "are watched by the whole country." First of all, these are the objects built for the 2012 APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Summit in Vladivostok, 2013 Student Games in Kazan and 2014 Winter Olympiad in Sochi.
"Naturally, questions arise: whether the money is spent properly, how much efficient the expenditures are, and how subcontracting is organized," the "Gazeta.Ru" quotes Russian President.
The Olympiad-2014 in Sochi has all the chances to get in the book of records by its cost.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that according to the Ministry for Regional Development, in 2009-2012, the preparation for Sochi Olympiad will consume 1.054 trillion roubles, of which 699.3 billion roubles will be allocated from the federal budget. Earlier, the budget of the 2009-2012 federal target programme of constructing the Olympic objects and Sochi development as a mountain-climate resort made 169.1 billion roubles, while the programme as a whole made 314 billion roubles.
Thus, it turns out that the total expenses on preparing the Olympiad have gone up by more than six times.
