Makhov: many businessmen in KBR finance terrorists

The criminality in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) is under effect of the nationalist-extremist underground groupings, which use different methods but have one aim - destabilization of situation. This was stated today by Arthur Makhov, deputy public prosecutor of the republic at the sitting of the Public Chamber of the KBR.

The sitting was attended by authority officials, members of political parties, public organizations and media, who discussed the need "for every member of the society to join the struggle against religious extremism and terrorism."

According to Mr Makhov, "rallies were held in villages and settlements, where the current legislation on extremism and terrorism was explained. Operative employees work in contact with educational establishments."

However, in his opinion, the undertaken measures are insufficient. He admitted that there are operative data that many businessmen pay tributes to terrorists. However, victims fear to address law enforcement bodies.

Valery Khatazhukov, a member of the Public Chamber and the head of the Human Rights Centre of the KBR, called the audience to demonstrate their civil responsibility and tell about what actually takes place. In his opinion, the funding of the terrorist underground is done from inside - tributes are paid not only by businessmen but state bureaucrats; that is, de-legitimization of power takes place.
