Armenia: more than 800 prisoners amnestied

In connection with the amnesty announced by the Armenian authorities 533 inmates were released from prisons and 283 convicted faced reductions of sentences.

According to information for today, July 18, 816 people in total took advantage of the amnesty, the IA "News-Armenia" reports with reference to the press service of the Criminal-Executive Department of the Ministry of Justice.

Most of all, the amnesty affected the penitentiary institution "Nubarashen", from where 112 prisoners were released, and 60 convicted faced reductions of sentences.

The amnesty process will continue until September 21. At present, about 4500 people serve their sentences or await court decision in penitentiary institutions of Armenia.
