Vologda Region: posting video with execution of a Caucasian on Internet is under inquiry

As stated on July 28 by the Investigatory Department of the Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) for the Vologda Region, a criminal case on the fact of posting a video showing a murder of a Caucasian on the Internet is under investigation.

The video with s scene of execution of a native of the Caucasus or Central Asia appeared in the territory of the Vologda Region on March 21, 2011. The scenes of beating were accompanied by comments calling to kill Caucasians. In mid-July inspectors managed to detect a 21-year-old resident of the Vologda Region, who had posted the video on his page in a social network.

The young man placed the extremist video with the aim that everybody could watch and download it. According to Natalia Letenkova, Senior Assistant to the Chief of the Investigatory Department of the ICRF for the Vologda Region, the resident of Vologda reckoned himself to be a member of the skinhead movement, the IA "SeverInform-News of the Vologda Region" reports.

Inspectors found out that the video was made back in 2007 and periodically appeared in different parts of the country before it came to the Vologda Region. According to the "Sova" Information-Analytical Centre, this was the video film "Execution of a Tajik and a Dag", which is on the Federal List of Extremist Materials.

Recently, more and more such crimes are associated with social networks.

Only in 2010, investigatory bodies initiated 13 criminal cases related to dissemination in the network Vkontakte (having about 60 million users) of extremist materials; in some cases facts were established of using the website to form groups aimed at committing crimes of extremist nature, with subsequent placing of crime recorded on video on the network, the ITAR-TASS reports.
