Residents of Achkhoi-Martan district of Chechnya suffered from flood

The flood which happened in Chechnya on August, 27, because of a strong rise of water level in the rivers caused by pelting rains inflicted serious damage upon the town of Grozny and the settlement of Shaami-Yurt, Achkhoi-Martan district, where 20 private housing estates were waterlogged.

As a result of rains water level of the Sunzha river exceeded dangerous marks and rose over 3 meters 80 centimeters. The water broke through the dam, gushed out into the dwelling settlement of Voikov and flooded over 660 houses. 2573 people, 770 children among them, were evacuated from the flood zone. The main aftermath of flood has already been smoothed down. There are no victims or injured persons as a result of the natural disaster.

Beside Grozny, one of the settlements of Achkhoi-Martan district, Shaami-Yurt, was seriously damaged. On August, 27, 20 private housing estates where 60 people live were waterlogged there. Three hanging bridges and a highway bridge were also swept away by the river. Water torrents damaged the village gas pipeline.

The situation in Grozny is little by little becoming stable. Part of the evacuated residents in the settlement of Voikov are currently staying with their relatives, others have been temporarily accommodated at schools, dormitories and the hotel.
