Kalmykia: court marshals hold campaign "Your child needs you"

In the period from August 25 to September 1, the Federal Service of Court Marshals (FSCM) for the Republic of Kalmykia (RK) is holding the campaign "Your child needs you", under which the court marshals of the Elista branch are sending reminder letters to most malicious alimony defaulters.

"September 1 is the start of the new school year," says the letter. "And on this day we address all alimony debtors: 'Take a step towards your child. Think about him or her; try not to cloud his or her joy. According to the Elista City Department of Court Marshals,, your alimony debt is...'."

The non-payment of alimony to support children is one of the most pressing issues that the state is facing. In the first half of 2011, the territorial divisions of the FSCM for the RK ran 2056 alimony orders, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the press service of the Department. However, the total number of completed orders to date makes only 566.

"In recent years, due to migration of people court marshals find it increasingly difficult to search for alimony debtors," said Delgir Bodgaeva, the press secretary of the republic's FSCM. "Often they go to work in other regions; they work there without registered labour contracts, which makes it impossible to establish their place of employment and incomes."

Through joint efforts of court marshals and law enforcers, within six months of this year, 30 neglectful mothers and fathers were detected, while court marshals put arrest on property of six alimony debtors.
