In Astrakhan, verdict to natives of Dagestan convicted for raping disabled girl comes into force

The verdict passed by the Soviet District Court, according to which 8 natives of Dagestan were found guilty of raping a 26-year-old girl, a hearing and speech invalid, has come into affect, as reported by the Investigatory Department for the Astrakhan Region of the ICRF (Investigatory Committee of the Russian federation).

The eight natives of Dagestan were found guilty of rape and sexual assault by a group under a prior concert and sentenced to from 5 to 8.5 years of imprisonment. Eleven more suspects are on a search list under the same case.

On August 25, the Astrakhan Regional Court considered the cassation complaint of defendants' advocates. However, the Regional Court upheld the verdict of the first instance.

On August 29, the verdict came into force. Kurban Akhmedov, Shamil Magomedov, Magomed Magomedov, Shamil Ibragimov and their four minor accomplices were found guilty of rape, and Akhmedov was also convicted for robbery.

Kurban Akhmedov was sentenced to 8.5 years of imprisonment, Magomed Magomedov – to 8 years, Shamil Magomedov and Shamil Ibragimov – to 6.5 years each. Three juveniles were sentenced to five years in prison each. All of them will serve their terms at a minimum-security colony, the GTKR "Stavropol" reports.

Another juvenile accomplice, who was under 18 as of the time of sentencing, will spend 5 years at a juvenile correctional facility.

"It should be noted that the investigation and judicial consideration of this criminal case was accompanied by pressure on the inquiry and trial, as well as on the victim, including through the use of mass media," reports the website of the above Investigatory Department of the ICRF.
