Ex-prosecutor in Volgograd who ran into a child sentenced to 2,5 years of custody

Today Central district court of Volgograd sentenced Elena Ivanova, ex-employee of Public prosecutor’s office, who was acknowledged guilty of a child’s death in a road accident to 2,5 years of custody with a stay of execution.

On June, 20, 2009, an “Opel Corsa” car driven by Ivanova, prosecutor for inspection of criminal procedural and operational search activities of Volgograd regional Public prosecutor’s office ran into a six-years-old Sasha Kolokoltsev who was crossing the carriageway. The child died on-site.

Ivanova was acknowledged guilty according to part 3, clause 264 of the Criminal code of the Russian Federation (traffic infringement bringing about a person’s death), “Interfax” reports.

For the reason that Ivanova was bringing up a child born in 2002 alone, the court decided to defer execution of the verdict until her child attained the age of 14, i.e. for five years, RIA “Novosti” reports.

The lost boy’s parents are dissatisfied with the verdict but have not yet decided whether they will appeal against it. “I had been bringing up my son seven years and bearing him inside nine months and she was only sentenced to 2,5 years of custody and even that she will serve in five years while a lot of events may occur during this term”, mother of the lost child Tatiana Kolokoltseva declared.
