Residents of Adygea mark Day of Memory and Mourning

On June 21 and 22, Adygea held events, dedicated to the commemorative date of the beginning of Great Patriotic War. Tonight, the capital of the republic hosted a picket, dated to the Day of Memory and Mourning.

The picket "Write grandfather's name" was held in the creation and entertainment park of Maikop. 10 volunteer students of the Maikop Humanitarian and Technical College of the Adygea State University installed in the central alley of the park a stand with clean Whatman paper sheets, on which every passer-by could write the name of his or her relative, a veteran of World War II.

"This is the first time, when the picket is held on the Day of Memory and Mourning; however, during two years, it is organized in parallel with distribution of St George's Ribbon to the holiday of May 9, and all the time, posters are entirely covered with names," the volunteers stated.

Staff members of the Adyg Committee on Youth Affairs have emphasized that after the picket, the posters will be examined, and in case if they will be of some value, they will be given to the local history or the school museum, which collect that kind of things. However, at present, no such agreements were concluded between the Committee and the museums.

Along with the picket, the park hosted an exhibition of showpieces, found by the youth search squad "Phoenix" during the works to detect remains of Soviet soldiers. Three tables showed samples of weapons of the war, ammunition and other finds.

In the other evening, under support of the youth parliament of the State Council-Khase of Adygea, the city park hosted another public event "No one is forgotten, nothing is forgotten". Its participants more than 30 young Maikop residents created that inscription by means of water streams at the edge of an open city basin.

Besides, on June 21, the leading republic's radio stations held a quiz.
