Dagestan: investigators stop villagers from lynching man suspected of murdering girl

On August 12, the Tarumovka District Court of Dagestan pronounced pre-trial restriction in the form of keeping in custody to a 25-year old native of Ukraine without fixed abode, suspected of raping and murdering a nine-year female resident of the village of Koktyubei. On the previous day, local residents almost lynched the suspect, and the murder was prevented by the intervention of the investigators.

On August 10, the girl's body was found on the outskirts of the village of Koktyubei in the territory of the Shirokolsky fish factory on the bank of an irrigation canal. According to the preliminary information, her death was caused by drowning. On the other day, early in the morning, the visiting young man was arrested, whom the local residents had seen swimming with the girl on the eve. In the course of the interrogation, he confessed that he had drowned her while trying to rape her.

The suspect of the crime came to the Tarumovka District to earn money and worked as an unskilled worker. After investigatory measures on the bank of the canal, the local residents made an attempt to lynch the suspect; however, the investigators rescued him, forced him into a car and brought him to the police station.

In the course of the interrogation at the investigatory agencies, the suspect said that he regretted the incident.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told that the suspect, the native of the Kherson Region of Ukraine, who recently lived in the Kursk Region, was thrice convicted for thefts and robbery.
