Antagonists of abortions in North Ossetia are going to deliver lectures on the subject at schools and institutions of higher education

Organizers of a picket against abortions in Vladikavkaz intend to strive for adoption of a law prohibiting induced abortions not based on medical indications at the legislative level. They are currently training people who will deliver lectures on the subject to senior pupils. However, physicians point out that prohibition of induced abortions can promote increase of the number of illegal abortions which often cause death of a woman who decided to do so.

The picket was held on August, 12, near the entrance of Emergency hospital of Vladikavkaz where the abortion unit is located. About 30 people took part in the action.

“We are working at the legislative level. Our activities are yet moderate. We offer four days of silence when a woman can think over whether she should have an abortion or not. We are currently doing our best for the question to be considered by the State Duma of the Russian Federation. We hold these actions in different cities and towns for the law against abortions to be adopted”, organizer of picket Dmitry Tsorionov said to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

“We know that here in the Emergency hospital they perform abortions at late pregnancy terms”, Tsorionov says. According to him, one can pay 30 thousand rubles and have an abortion at the 20th week of pregnancy term and the activists can oppose it by drawing public attention.

Participant of the action Alan Bedoev also points out that people in the republic are aware of the problem of abortions. “There are waiting lists to gynecology unit, they perform abortions by appointment. I am against it. If even one woman going to have an abortion changes her mind after today’s picket it means that we did not come here in vain”, Alan Bedoev added.

During the picket two surgeons came out of the hospital and started a lively debate with the participants of the action. They did not support the picket because they considered that prohibition of abortions would not result in anything good.
