In South Ossetia, local authorities eliminate aftermath of hail storm in region

In the Tskhinvali District of South Ossetia, rainfall with large hail affected local residents, involved in gardening, and tore roofs off houses in two dwelling settlements. This was reported by Valery Bibilov, Deputy Chief of the district administration.

At about 7:14 p.m. Moscow time, in Tskhinvali, the rainfall with hail occurred and hailstones reached two centimetres in diameter. Despite the fact that the rainfall lasted only about two minutes, it managed to harm households of local residents in the capital of South Ossetia and surrounding communities.

During the hail, people "tried to escape the unexpected phenomenon under all eaves; drivers were hiding their cars from hitting pieces of ice under trees, and some of them even covered cars, parked at house, with soft blankets to reduce the possible damage," the IA "Osinform" reports.

"The greatest damage was inflicted to farmers: their planting of cucumbers and tomatoes, vineyards, fruit trees, and so on were affected," said Valery Bibilov, Deputy Chief of the Tskhinvali District.

The Deputy Chief of the district administration has also noted that the rainfall with hail damaged roofs of residents of the villages of Tbet and Khod. "In the nearest future, we will replace the roofs," the officials stated, the IA "Res" reports.
